Energy Challenge

Virginia Commonwealth University - Richmond, VA

2rw worked with Virginia Commonwealth University to increase energy awareness and encourage the VCU community to reduce resource use, to save money and to improve the environmental quality in Richmond.  2rw created an interactive web site as the primary means of communication with the VCU community.

The effort is one of the University’s answers to an executive order from Governor Mark R. Warner for all institutions in the Commonwealth to reduce energy consumption by at least seven percent and a long-term goal of 10 percent.

The interactive website and program featured:

• Monthly articles on various energy issues
• "Waste Watchers" to involve VCU community in reporting places they see energy and water waste
• "Bright Ideas" to encourage the community to submil resource saving ideas
• Debunking of energy myths
• On site demonstrations
• Direct mail / email
• Giveaways promoting the web address
• Live scoreboard which posts the energy and water savings on a monthly basis
